Semester 4: Week 5

 

Last Friday was a lot but in a good way. I went to the wastewater treatment facility in Surprise and was expecting it to smell horrible. It didn't smell good but not nearly as bad as I thought it'd be. There was a lot more mechanical engineering involved in the filtration process than I thought. I was expecting the waste to be filtered through a net but it was more a spiral mechanic with bristles at the ends, so I'm more confident in the cleanliness of the water. 

After the facility trip, I went with Maya to the ASU West Mixer. We were there on time but got to the actual party late from trying to navigate around campus. It was a lot of fun and everyone was so welcoming. Several people told me I could start the application even though my FAFSA isn't completed so that eased my nerves about renewal. This week I plan on working on the application!

Semester 3 - Week 0

  This week I had my calc 2 and public speaking class, along with meeting with the TI Kathleen over at TGen. I have decided that I will be continuing my project on plant acoustics and starting a new one at TGEN. I don't have the full details on the TGEN project yet but I will once I have worked out the details on my schedule. It will be a very long and very busy semester but I am confident that I will be fine in the end. I wanna do as much as I can this semester so I have more experience to put on my resume for when I start applying for REU's soon.

Semester 3 - Week 5

  This past week I have been working on time management. Fortunately for this semester I only have 2 classes that assign homework and require outside studying: Physics and Calc 2. I had to switch to online for Calc 2 because I could not handle doing evening classes Monday through Thursday but I am now caught up on Calc 2. Physics will require more time, the math for physics isn't difficult because it's mostly applying algebra and precalculus concepts but putting together the equations and understanding the context is the real challenge.  My goal for this week is to update my current Google calendar (as shown above) and add set times for when I will study and when I will go to office hours for Physics. I used to study whenever I had the time or when I felt like it because I hated doing homework (especially math) when I felt tired or upset. I don't plan on forcing myself to work when I am not feeling well but I am going to do something about those feelings by taking a walk or...

Week 4

My mind has felt so scrambled for the past few weeks. It's my first semester as a student, Student Success Specialist, and Train scholar. Balancing all 3 whilst trying to have somewhat of a social life was difficult, to say the least. I wasn't sure what to do or who to ask. I wrote an email to Amanda, and Josh about quitting because I felt like I wasn't the right candidate anymore.   Amanda called me later that day, and it was intimidating at first because I assumed there'd be negative precautions for me. I was so paralyzed with fear and anxiety when I picked up the call. To my surprise, she was very understanding and didn't want to give up on me so easily. We had a long phone call discussing my frustrations and how I was approaching my problems. It felt nice talking through it all and being able to troubleshoot with someone else.  She said that I could quit if I really felt like that was the best decision.
